Artist Statement, Lisa Culjis
The art mediums I enjoy most are collage and assemblage (3-dimensional collages.) Favorite themes include Asian imagery, botanical and scientific elements, and using black and white photographs from days gone by.
I collect found ephemera, paper scraps, small found objects and discarded bits – rusty, dusty, broken, nostalgic little things – from yard sales, thrift stores, garden waste piles and bits that friends pass along.
These gathered pieces wait expectantly in my studio until the moment arrives to give them a new life; to cut, arrange, paint, and glue them together. The completed works are rich in layered patterns, texture and color. Over the past two decades, my artwork has shown in numerous venues in the Sacramento region.
If you would like to contact me or are interested in purchasing any of these pieces, please feel free to send me an email at lisaculjis@gmail.com.
